One-section website for your business: what it needs

Updated 2026-10-08

Not every business needs a big website. Many only need a one-section page: a single long screen where customers find who you are, what you offer, where you are and how to contact you. This guide tells you what to include, in what order and what to watch so it works well on a phone.

1. Think phone first

A large share of people looking for a local business do it from their phone. Design for a narrow screen: short text, big buttons, nothing that forces pinch-zooming. Check your page on your own phone before calling it finished.

2. What it must say at the very top

On the first screen the customer should grasp three things without scrolling: what the business is, where, and how to contact you. Example structure (a template, not a real case): business name, one line about what you do ("Handmade bread in [area]"), a "Message us on WhatsApp" button and a "Get directions" button.

3. List what you offer

A short list of products or services, one line each. If you have a menu or price list, put it in text, not only in a photo: text reads better on a phone and can be read by screen readers. If you prefer not to publish prices, say how to ask for them.

4. Add hours and location

Include the full address, directions, opening days and hours, and holidays. Link to your Google Maps listing so the customer can open the route with one tap (see our Google Maps listing guide). Hours must match your listing and the sign on your door.

5. One main way to contact you

Choose the contact method you really answer: WhatsApp, phone or email. One clear button beats five channels you do not reply to. If you use WhatsApp, link the ready-made message from our guide to WhatsApp orders.

6. Real, light photos

Use your own photos of your shop and products, not images from elsewhere: you need the right to use every image. Reduce their file size before uploading: optimizing images improves performance and shortens page load time. Add alt text to each photo that describes it in a few words.

7. What search engines need

For Google to understand your page: a clear, concise title with the name and type of business, a short description unique to that page, and headings that help people navigate. Also use the same name, address and phone as in your listing. No tricks needed; Google recommends creating content that people find useful and compelling.

8. Personal data and notices

If your page collects data (a form, for example), you must say what you use it for. If it only shows information and a WhatsApp button, you do not need to collect anything on the page. Less data, less risk. In Peru, Law 29733 and its current regulations (D.S. 016-2024-JUS) apply.

9. Where to host it

You can publish it on services with free plans; check their terms, limits and whether they allow commercial use. A domain of your own helps people remember you, but it usually costs a yearly fee. Decide according to your budget.

10. Check before publishing

Final list: phone and links tested, correct hours, real photos, easy to read on a phone, no typos, and someone who does not know your business understands what you do within 10 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own domain?

No. You can start on a free address from your hosting service. A domain of your own is easier to remember and usually costs a yearly fee, so decide according to your budget.

What information should I put on the page?

Business name, what you do, address and directions, hours, one main way to contact you and real photos. Add prices only if you want to publish them.

How heavy should a photo be?

There is no magic number. Reduce each photo before uploading it, and test the page on your phone with mobile data: if it feels slow, make the images lighter.
